Messi breaks Barcelona's all time scoring record
Lionel Messi broke the Barcelona scoring record which stood for 60 years following a hat trick against Granada at the Nou Camp. He has now scored 234 goals (previous record was 232) in 314 games for Barcelona in all competitions, with an impressive 94 assists.
For the 2012 La Liga campaign these are the latest numbers from these two goal scoring machines. Messi is showing the lead in pretty much all departments now. Can Ronaldo respond in Real's next match against Villareal?

Goal-den Boot La Liga
Messi and Ronaldo both scored at the weekend, so Ronaldo keeps his one goal lead after their 24th league games of the season. Messi is showing he gets a bigger percentage of his team goals and needs less shots at goal to get them. This week I have added Van Persie from Arsenal for sake of comparison with the World's top two. Although not having scored as many goals, he has the highest percentage of team goals and also a better shot to goal ratio than Ronaldo.
What was most impressive at the weekend was Ronaldo's finish, a cheeky backheel as he ran away from goal. This gave Real Madrid a 1-0 over Rayo Vallecano and kept them 10 points clear of rivals Barcelona. Messi scored in a 2-1 victory, also showing a degree of genius. He took a quick free kick which arrowed to the top corner and the Atletico goalkeeper could only watch it sail past. Messi could have had two but he was pulled back and yellow carded for a hand ball on a typical jinky run..Maradona wouldn't have got caught!

La Liga goal-den boot competition 2012
Lionel Messi scored four goals this evening against Valencia at the Nou Camp in a 5-1 win. This brings his total for this La Liga campaign to 27 in 23, just one behind Ronaldo. Ronaldo added to one his tally against Racing Santander in last night's game which Real Madrid won 4-0.
This level of scoring is unreal. It is amazing that two guys are scoring so frequently at the same time whilst playing in one of the biggest rivalries in World football.
